Nesting Great Blue Heron. Each spring in May the racous squawking and chatter begins to emanate from Silvertip Ridge overlooking the Benewah Marshland and Lake. These long-legged and long-necked birds have established a rookery on the lower slope of this steep sided ridge. I estimate upwards of 50 nesting pairs of Great Blue Herons lay claim to upper lofts of old growth yellow pine and fir along the ridgetop. I go there in early May each year to observe and take photos and watch the crows and ravens ply their skills at stealing eggs from the Heron nests.
