Nymphs

The bug-eyed large one looks like a spider. The eyes are two connected balls from a light socket pull chain. These are available from Wal-Mart. (I got 100 pairs of eyes out of one chain.)

(Click on the Photo for a LARGER view.)

The bead-head nymphs are tied on a #12 hook. The head is a glass bead and the legs are black goose biots. The body is black dubbing with vinyl scud back material. Black 6/0 thread.

The Muddler Minnow

Tied on a #6 2x, the Muddler Minnow can be fished wet or dry (with some help from your favorite floatant.) I'm thinking that this might be a good Northern Pike bait when they are skimming around in the shallow pockets in the wild rice and around the pads! We will see... when the ice is out and the dragonflies are perching.

The Celebrity Dry Fly

In sizes 16, 14, 12, and 10, this fly pattern is effective in the afternoon when the sun is leaving the water and the hatch is on. Grouse tail, olive green dubbing, deer hair wings and a mix of grizzly and brown hackle with brown thread.

Weighted Nymphs

These are experimental and will remained unnamed until after the trials. This fly is tied on a #12 hook.

Rose Lake, ten miles north of St. Maries, has a good population of panfish, blue gill and crappie. These flies should be killers when fished around the lilly pads on that lake.

I'm also anticipating they will be good trout flies for the St. Joe River..

Bucktail Royal Coachman Variant

Joe's recipe, except I substituted white Antron for the bucktail. When I was younger (35 years ago), the Royal Coachman was one of my favorites to tie. This variant should be a good flie to thrash around in the St. Joe River.

This Morning's Station

Click on the picture for a closer view. The conversation on 3.840 about paddles, etc, prompted this picture. Notice the solid state interface (the bare metal box on top of the 830) between the keyer and the 830. (My keyer doesn't like the minus 90 volts on the key line..) The keyer is a PK3 from Chuck Olsen, I built it in an altoids tin. The paddle is built using contacts from an old relay and other stuff.

Another Moth

This one (#2) is tied on a #10 long shank. The body is white Antron with palmered ostrich herl. The wings are Antron. It has a parachute of grey hackle. #8 cream tying thread. Looks like it will float high and have excellant visibility on the water. Should be a killer, eh, Frank?

Size 14 Moth

Frank said, "Tie up a moth, a white one" so, after some circling here it is... Size 14.

Today's fly

The Klinkhamer.. parachute. The Rib is doubled, shiney rayon thread. Rabbit and some other kind of dubbing, not sure what the darker stuff is. Grey hackle with felt on the top one. The bottom orange is synthetic yarn fluff. These look pretty fishy to me. What do you think Joe?
